[ ever since waking up, kokichi has been silently and quickly gathering as many weapons he could get his hands on. for as much as he talks about how fun this game is, he actually hates it. it's just like monokuma's killing game. he can't stand this and he's not going to let this mastermind just get what they want. ]
[ he gathers as many potential murder weapons as possible and throws them into the pool. there aren't any secure places in this warehouse (he checked everywhere) and this is the next best thing that he could find. you can only reach the pool by going through the gym and there's enough in the gym for kokichi to block the entrance with. it's not that he's trying to hide it since, well, everyone has a map and can see that there's definitely a pool behind the gym, but he wants to see whenever someone goes through it. he figures that if anyone finds the door and then gets into the pool, it's going to take them a while to grab the weapons. if he got back before they got out, maybe he could just try to trap them in there instead. who knows. it's a flimsy plan, but that's all he has to work with in this environment. ]
[ he has already gotten a good deal of weapons by the end of the first day. a baseball bat, a crossbow, some arrows, a broken scythe, some knives, things like that. if there's one thing that kokichi is good at, it's getting around places quickly and without being noticed. he has taken everything and thrown it into the waters before going out to see what people were generally doing or seeing if he can find anything else. he does manage to find shuichi's hat (what is this doing here?) and he decides to head back to the pool with it. it's not like he's going to throw the cap in there, but he just needs some time alone right now. ]
[ he slips through the small gap that he created to reach the door and walks down the hallway. he doesn't realize that someone has already slithered their way there, but guess he'll find out as soon as he opens the pool entrance. ]
[The smart thing to do in a situation like this is supposed to be, hole up somewhere. Store supplies. Ideally somewhere easy to protect, with only one entrance, where most people wouldn't be going. And, yes, Akira's got a small stockpile in the darkest and shittiest corner of the library. But just sitting around for three days straight and waiting for the end isn't something he's glad to do. So he still goes out, still makes patrols, still pokes around sometimes. Lately he's been noticing objects going missing, all of them weapons, and all very worrying — moving around makes him an easier target, but it gives him more agency than shaking and crying in a corner. Not even a locked closet. Just a corner.]
[Maybe a locked closet was too nice to ask for.]
[So in his travels, he comes across a conspicuous barricade in the gym. It's an easily removed barricade, to be sure; all of these items are fairly lightweight for someone like him, though they might be harder to move for a smaller person. Still, the fact that someone put all this up makes Akira naturally curious (well, suspicious) of what's on the other side. So after ensuring that no one else is in the immediate area, he starts moving everything slightly to the side so that he can slip between them. And once he's at the door, which opens into the pool, he rearranges the objects into their original positions, and reaches for his gun as he enters.]
[...No one's here.]
[Akira closes the door and approaches the pool itself, stowing his weapon back in his pocket. Every single missing item, every single weapon, is just floating wide open in the pool. Including the scythe he went out of his way to hide! Why? Doesn't the barricade around the pool room make this even more suspicious? Is this someone's base? Are they trying to quarantine the weapons?]
...What the hell...
[Unsure what to do with this new information, Akira starts walking around the perimeter of the pool, staying far enough away that he wouldn't slip and fall into the business end of an arrow.]
[ it is indeed true that putting up the barricade makes it more suspicious, but it also makes it easier to trap someone inside if everything is already mostly in place. kokichi isn't foolish enough to not know his own size or strength. he won't stand a chance against some of the others here so he just needs to do what he can with the very little he has access to here. ]
[ he holds shuichi's hat in one hand as he opens the door with the other and-- ]
Ah.
[ ... that's all he can see when he spots akira in the room. well, this isn't what he expected to see when he came in here. he stops for a second, trying to assess the situation and what akira will do. that will determine whether or not he'll run out and try to close everything up. ]
[Akira jumps when the door opens, and presses himself towards the wall — but it's Kokichi, holding... a hat? A hat. Just a hat. No guns, no clubs. His hand is hovering towards one particular pocket, but he makes no move to actually pull out whatever's in there. He just straightens up, watching Kokichi.]
[ kokichi instantly eyes where akira's hand goes. hm... he takes an extra second to process everything. should he run out or should he stay? when akira asks him that question, he decides to do the latter. he puts on the hat (it sharply clashes the mask that he still wears) and then puts his hands behind his head as always. he's going to take this approach. ]
Whoops, looks like you found my not-so-secret hideout!
[He takes another look at the pool. The perimeter of the pool, actually. There's something missing there, something really important for access most of the time.]
...Oh. I see.
[Akira doesn't look like he's going to attack, at least.]
Yep, I thought it'd be boring if we could just easily kill each other with weapons. I've yet to see a killing game where we just beat each other to death, so that sounds like way more fun!
[Akira looks back at the floating instruments of death.]
This is kind of conspicuous, though, don't you think? I just hid the scythe under the couch because no one would think to look there. But everyone would think to look at a barricade in the gym.
Oh, I never said that I was going to be the one to kill you...
[ and then with that, he... literally starts to bolt out of the room and down the hall. he's going to try and slip through so he could then push all those barricades right up against the door instead of leaving that tiny little gap from earlier. hm, this could have worked out better. ]
[Akira is further away than Kokichi from the door, but his legs are longer, and Kokichi's going to be busy with the furniture. So he's gonna book it as fast as he can to, if not get onto the other side of the door, then at least try to restrain Kokichi from locking him in.]
[ where is airi when you need her? so much for helping since he has to somehow push all that gym equipment against the door. he's trying to put his entire body weight on it as he tries to press it against the door, but akira is bigger than he is. he could probably hold the door in place so it doesn't get completely shut. ]
Hey, stop struggling! This is way less fun if you fight back!
[Akira sure is gonna try to keep it open, and maybe use his fucked-up knife or something he can reach from the barricade as a doorjamb. If there's even a moment that Kokichi lessens pressure on the door, Akira's going to double down on it, attempting to physically force himself through. He doesn't have a lot of time here.]
For fuck's— seriously, Ouma? Airi saved your ass for this?
Yeah, that was a real mistake, huh? Starting to regret your choices now?
[ kokichi is putting all of his strength into trying to push the door shut, but he's eventually going to get tired. he's small and having not eaten a single thing since the nonary game started (he's been too focused on gathering all the weapons to grab much more than a quick bite), it's starting to take its toll on him. ]
You told us to make our own choices, and we made them! My plan was to save Kaito, I didn't ever want to kill him — but Airi felt so goddamn strong about saving your life!
[As soon as he gets enough clearance, Akira is going to pocket his knife again and try to brute-force his way through the door. The plan is to climb up and through the half-constructed barricade and get down to the floor on the other side. He's not going to make any swipes at Kokichi; just focus on escaping.]
Nothing stopped you from pushing Ban-chan aside and putting in your own choice.
[ and there's the clearance that akira wanted. eventually, kokichi's strength disappears and he goes tumbling backwards. he tries to catch himself and keep his balance, but he falls backwards and he has to put his hands behind him so he doesn't knock his head. ]
[Akira gets to his feet again, watching Kokichi intently, ignoring the many injuries he's sustained over the past few days all screaming in unison. The face he's putting on is tough, but it's not nearly as natural looking as it should be. He's realizing something now that he didn't before.]
This isn't the first murder game you've been through, right? Is it the same with Kaito?
Oh, Momota-chan didn't tell you? I thought that blabbermouth would have told everyone everything.
[ he grimaces slightly at the smart of the fall, but he's silent about it. he'll start to push himself up and also adjust the hat so it's back on properly. he wonders how saihara-chan managed to keep wearing this old thing. it's certainly not as comfy or flashy like his supreme leader cap. ]
Yep, we were in the same murder game. Akamatsu-chan was there as well. What a coincidence, right? All three of us in another murder game.
He almost did, but he changed the subject at the last minute. I had no idea about him until just now.
[It looks like Kokichi ran out of energy to try anything weird... for now, so Akira sits down on one of the benches. He doesn't want to stand anymore. Hurts like hell.]
Airi told me. She said that since you'd been through this before, it would be too cruel to kill you here.
But the same thing goes for Momota, huh? Even though he just... collapsed.
[ kokichi just stands there, using whatever little energy he has left to keep himself up. he's exhausted, physically, mentally, and emotionally. it's starting to take its toll on him. ]
What're you apologizing for? Momota-chan was probably going to die soon anyway. He probably hit his limit at that last Decision Game.
Well, Momota-chan was the reason I died last time so I'm sure he wouldn't mind dying for me this time. A life for a life and all that. He was always about those dumb heroics, anyway.
[ he says this so nonchalantly. does he actually believe this or is he just lying as usual? ]
[At this point, it kind of seems like Kokichi is too tired to lie. But if Akira asks, he'll draw attention to it, and Kokichi will start lying again because he's now aware. So, taking everything he says at face value. That means the first conversation on the fake island would have been... right as he was brought back to life.]
[ honestly, akira's right about that. he's a little too tired to give his whole elaborate and greater-than-life lies. he can slip in some small lies, lies by omission, give wrong impressions, or just muck up some details, but he's probably not going to do his whole grand over-exaggerated emotional outbursts. at least not right away. ]
Oh, you know, he just crushed me into itty-bitty pieces under a press machine.
Oh, that's just how Momota-chan is. All bark, but no bite, but I guess he just got really fed up with me after a while. After all, I did some pretty shitty things in that last game. He probably just snapped.
[ lmfao like kokichi would actually reveal why that whole thing happened. it's such a long story anyway ]
[How does one put this? Did Kokichi want Kaito to be the one to live, or did he just want himself to die? If he wanted to die that badly, he would have... killed himself already, right? The moment that everything began, he would have went to the first person he saw and told them to murder him. Or commit suicide if he thought the game would count that as a death. But he didn't. He locked up all the weapons and rendered them unusable behind this... stupid barricade. The same stupid barricade that Akira looks over at now.]
You really did want him to live over you. Even though he was the one to kill you last time.
[If he was the one to kill him last time. There's no way to know for sure. People change a lot in situations like these; that's probably what the experiment runners were hoping to prove, that previously moral people could be coerced into murder under extreme circumstances.]
And you would have done the same for Akamatsu too, wouldn't you?
[ and now kokichi looks back over at akira. it's difficult to say what his expression is underneath the mask, but it gives off a very blank feeling as kokichi says nothing for the half-second after akira finishes. immediately, the fake persona goes back up. ]
Wow, all this emotional and physical stress must be really going to your head! Why would I care about either one of them that much?
If you're talking to someone without confirming anything, all the other person can do is come up with their own conclusions. And it's a good way to keep people from learning about you. You look like an asshole all the time, but it's a strategy.
You need to know about people so you can predict what they'll do. But it also might make you more sympathetic towards them. And of course, you can't say a damn thing about yourself.
[It's just the same as the rest of Akira's life, really, except now he actually will be put into a position where he may have to... kill some of these people. "May have to", like Kaito Momota isn't dead because of him. God dammit.]
It sounds like you're already familiar with how it is. Phew, that saves me a lot of time to lecture you about how easily you can get killed by blindly trusting others.
Would you have lectured me in the first place, or just jerked me around?
...But yeah, you're right. I've never— been in something like this before, but you don't need it to know the ways people are eager to fuck you over for their own gain.
Nishishi, who knows. I'm a pretty big asshole so maybe I would have just given you really bad advice but frame it as good.
[ the energy to go back to his usual fake happy act is starting to come back. still nothing big but at least he can keep up something basic. ]
But yep, you better watch your back or else you might end up like all the seven who died. Even if it's not for their own personal gain, who knows what people will do when they're pushed.
Uh-oh, it sounds like I might fit those categories.
[ a lot of the remaining survivors are pretty small and don't seem like they can hold up their own in fighting, but do any of them "deserve" it? at least none of them have been acting like jerks and making some kind of positive cr with others. ]
[He assumes that everyone was pushed to extremes they shouldn't have been in, during whatever game Kokichi was talking about. That's what happened here. That's what happens all the time.]
[But he can't stop himself from asking, in the most neutral tone of voice:]
[ he looks over to the side as he talks. he still refuses to sit down, just standing there. he keeps his hands to his side. ]
She killed the wrong person. She thought she could end the game by going after the mastermind, but she killed an innocent person instead. Saihara-chan almost took the blame for her as well and would have gotten all of us killed.
